From early childhood I was interested in creating artwork. In my early twenties I joined an art group in Regina Saskatchewan and began painting in oils, also doing pen and ink drawings, and pastels.
I was fascinated by the colors of the vast landscapes, skies and wheat fields of the prairies in Saskatchewan, and more recently the forested areas and lakes in Manitoba. These have been the inspiration for many of my paintings, which are mostly done in a realistic style. I graduated from Red River College in Interior Design in 2010 and use the elements of design, such as shape, color, value, and harmony which I learned in the design course to create my paintings. I am fascinated by the shadows in the snow and how light falls upon certain objects, whether it is illuminating a distant grove of trees, or creating reflections in water, and I try to capture that on canvas. I enjoy doing florals as well. I am also exploring urban landscapes, and with a soft, subdued palette, I strive to bring out its own unique beauty and atmosphere.
I am now using acrylics, and I continue to explore how to best represent God’s creation, so that the viewer may be able to have a greater appreciation of our world, and its beauty.
I am a member of Local Color Art Group, the Manitoba Society of Artists (MSA), Cre8ery, and my artwork is also shown in several other art shows offered in Manitoba. I have had some of my paintings juried into the MSA juried art exhibition.
