BIO OF ARTIST Contact Laurie at firstname.lastname@example.org
Born in Dauphin and raised in Winnipeg, Laurie Zubert, nee Boughen, is a Manitoba artist, author / illustrator of the bestselling children’s book, Carbon Finds His Family.
As a child Laurie was selected to attend Saturday morning art classes at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, housed at that time, in the old archives building alongside the museum. A self-portrait was sent on tour and remained in the Eastern United States.
Over the years, while raising 3 children and helping to run a family business, she continued her painting, sketching and membership in the River East Arts & Crafts Association where she participated in show, sales and took commissions for custom work.
Her eclectic style beginning with pencil, ink and charcoal, moving on to oil paints, later expanding to include chalks and oil pastels, colored pencils, watercolor and acrylics.
When diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2007, retirement provided the opportunity to spend more time on her creative endeavours, as her health allowed. She is a supporter of the Multiple Myeloma Walk and donates paintings, cards and copies of her book at the annual Winnipeg event.
Laurie’s artwork, cards and book are available at: The Shops of St. Andrews, Schriemers Décor Centre and at the Selkirk Community Art Centre gift shop and the Gwen Fox Gallery as well as directly from her.
Cards only are on sale at Growers Direct across Stapon Rd. from Kildonan Mall, Winnipeg.
Laurie lives in St. Andrews with her husband and spends time with her family at Grindstone Provincial Park in the summer where she is a member of the Grindstone Art Group.
