Andrew Zurawsky
Artist statement
Andrew has been interested in drawing from early years, but began painting in a more focussed and consistent way in the early 90s. Since then, he has benefited from participation in art classes, interaction with other painting enthusiasts, and art reference literature. He has studied technique, use of colour, and issues of perspective, and likes to try various approaches and styles.
He paints primarily in watercolour and acrylics, but has done pen-and-ink art, and has tried his hand at lino-cut printing.
Favourite subjects include heritage architecture, urban street scenes, landscapes and flowers. His Ukrainian heritage and his travel to Ukraine in connection with projects, is reflected in many of his painting themes.
Andrew is a founding member of the E.K./Elmwood-based Local Colour Art Group, in Winnipeg, and has regularly participated in their annual art shows. He is a member of the Gwen Fox Art Gallery where he has participated in exibitions. He has had art displayed at the Fleet Gallery, the Wayne Arthur Gallery and Oseredok, in Winnipeg and the Portage and District Arts Centre in Portage la Prairie.
